Learn the basics of reading a map and using a compass Saturday in Chestnut Ridge Park at a learn and practice event organized by the Buffalo Orienteering Club.

The educational session begins at 10 a.m. at the Orchard Park park, where signs will guide participants to the registration site. Individuals will get training from experienced instructors. The one-hour training is geared for any experience level, walkers or runners, and individuals and families of all ages.

The $10 fee includes entry into a regular orienteering meet that will follow the learn and practice event, with beginner, intermediate and advanced courses to test participants’ navigation skills. The regular meet, with starting times from noon to 1 p.m., will be held at picnic pavilion No. 29 off of the Newton Road entrance.
