Seven bridges in Western New York are among 51 statewide that have been identified as most at risk because of repeated flooding.

The upgrades to the 51 spans will cost the state more than $257 million.

The structures have been scoured and lost foundation materials like sand and rocks from around and beneath abutments, piers, foundations and embankments, said state officials.

It will cost the state $13.5 million to upgrade the following bridges in Western New York:

Route 78 over Black Creek and Route 78 over Gil Creek, both in Amherst; Route 39 over Cattaraugus Creek in Sardinia; Route 62 over Mud Creek in Conewango; Route 20 over Tonawanda Creek in Alexander; Route 5 over Tonawanda Creek in Batavia; and Route 78 over East Koy Creek in Wethersfield.
