The speed limit on Chestnut Ridge Road (Route 277) will be lowered.Police Chief Mark Pacholec said the town got a notice from the state Department of Transportation that the speed limit would be lowered from 55 mph to 45 mph.
“That’s a problem area, given the sight lines and deer issues,” he said.
The new limit will cover from the Chestnut Ridge overpass south to Gartman Road, he said. Once the new limit is posted, “our officers will begin an education process,” Pacholec said.
At last Wednesday’s Town Board meeting, Orchard Park alumnus and state Supreme Court Justice Frederick Marshall inducted 43 high school students into the town’s Youth Court.
The students underwent a rigorous selection training and process that included interviews and a “bar” exam. They will operate Orchard Park’s Youth Court.
Also Wednesday, the Town Board appointed Councilman Michael Sherry to be the town’s liaison to the Orchard Park Central School District.
The Orchard Park Central School district is offering a Common Core information night to discuss with parents some of the educational changes that have been made because of the Common Core learning standards.
The goal of the meeting is to educate parents on the changes made in English language arts and mathematics in kindergarten through fifth grade, and also to give parents ideas and resources to support their child’s education.
The presentation will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the high school auditorium, 4040 Baker Road. Park on the Baker Road side of the high school.
