CARLTON – A Lockport woman was run over by her own car Saturday night just after fastening her 4-year-old son into his safety seat in the town of Carlton, Orleans County sheriff’s officials reported.

Alexis N. Thompson, 28, was struck and knocked to the ground by an open driver’s door and then run over in the driveway of a home in the 12700 block of Roosevelt Highway about 8:15 p.m. when her sedan became dislodged from “park” and began to move.

Thompson had just secured her toddler son into his approved child safety seat and her 10-year-old daughter was in the front seat listening to the radio when the incident occurred, according to police reports.

After striking Thompson, the vehicle continued out into the roadway where it came to rest.

None of the children was injured, however, Thompson’s injuries were significant. She was flown by emergency helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was hospitalized in guarded condition, police said.
