Town Supervisor Sheila M. Meegan was among 63 women recognized as a “Woman of Distinction” by the state Senate last week in Albany.Meegan was chosen by state Sen. Patrick M. Gallivan, R-Elma, in the annual tradition of nominating one individual from each district to be enshrined along other historical women whose contributions have had a positive impact on the state.
“Sheila is committed to helping and representing citizens of West Seneca, whether through her countless hours of volunteer work or dedication as an elected leader of the community,” said Gallivan, whose 59th Senate District includes parts of Erie, Livingston and Monroe Counties, and all of Wyoming County.
A Gallivan staffer mentioned the award during last week’s Town Board meeting.
“It is a privilege and an honor, and I’m truly blessed to have this job,” Meegan said that night.

• Fourteen Holy Helpers School, which is among schools to be closed this year by the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, is holding its final open house from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today. The event will feature a book fair, art show, ice cream social and tours of the school at 1339 Indian Church Road. There will be a silent auction for school memorabilia, including trophies awarded through the years.
• The annual chicken Bar-B-Q, sponsored by East High School’s Parent Teacher Group, will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the school, 4760 Seneca St. Take-out dinners cost $9 each; drive-thru service will be offered in the front parking lot.
