Students, businesses and members of the community will be honored at Tuesday’s Community Awards Night in the West Seneca School District.West Senior High School, 3330 Seneca St., is hosting the program, which begins with light refreshments at 6:15 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony at 7 in the auditorium. There also will be musical performances and an art display.
The event is designed to recognize individuals, community members and representatives from the town who have helped students meet the mission of district schools.
Also this week:
• Admission is free today to Spring Fest at Burchfield Nature & Art Center, 2001 Union Road. Scheduled for noon to 4 p.m., there will be live music, children’s activities and crafts, raffles, refreshments and vendors. Representatives of pet adoption organizations and a wildlife rehabilitation center will be present, with feathered and furry friends. Donations are required from some activities.
• The town’s Planning Board meets at 7 p.m. Thursday in Council Chambers at Town Hall, 1250 Union Road.
• Native Roots Artists Guild will feature the work of Haudenosaunee artists in an exhibit that opens Thursday in Burchfield Nature & Art Center. An opening reception is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. The exhibit, entitled “Preserving Nature: Beaded Beauties, Fancy Florals & Creative Creatures,” will run through June 1 at the center, which is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.
• Pre-registration closes Friday for Saturday’s inaugural Mother’s Day Morning Tea, sponsored by the town’s Y.E.S. (Youth Engaged in Service) Program. The tea will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the Senior Center, 4620 Seneca St. Mothers, aunts and grandmothers will be admitted for $2 each, while the price is $5 for guests. • West Seneca VFW Post 8113 is sponsoring a steak roast from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at 299 Leydecker Road. Tickets are $15 each for the dinner, which features a charcoal-grilled, one-pound porterhouse steak, salad, potato, rolls and coffee. Tickets are available at the bar and at the door.
