Talk about a crash ending to a relationship.
Hamburg Police said a man drove his girlfriend’s Jeep on railroad tracks and left it there about 9 p.m. Tuesday night, where it was demolished by a Norfolk Southern train.
The westbound freight train struck the vehicle, which was unoccupied, at the Bayview Road crossing between Route 5 and Willowdale Avenue.
No one was in the vehicle when it was struck, and no one on the freight train was injured by the collision. The Jeep is listed as destroyed. Police said the train was not damaged.
Police said John R. Ridlespurg, 45, of Willowdale, intentionally parked his girlfriend’s vehicle on the tracks after a domestic dispute. He is facing numerous charges, including three class D felonies: reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and unlawfully interfering with a train, police said. Ridlespurg also faces charges of aggravated harassment, unauthorized use of a vehicle, possession of marijuana, and traffic violations.
He was taken to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $10,000 bail.
